Find Your Balance at The Space in Raglan

October 7, 2024

The Space is a place for you, for everyone, to balance body, mind and spirit. Community and connection is important to us, and we cultivate these values by offering accessible yoga and pilates classes taught by experienced teachers.

Back in 2016, we first started The Space (down Volcom Lane, across from Raglan Roast). As the first dedicated yoga space in Raglan, we thought we’d try it for a month, so we pulled together all our yoga mats and tea mugs from home. Now, it’s been nine years! The Space is grateful to everyone who has come to join us for yoga every day (we even jumped online over lockdowns). We’ve delivered thousands of classes and shared so many downward dogs and moments of connection. Yoga is about presence. We still love it just as much as day one.

There’s a constant ebb and flow of locals, visitors to Raglan, regulars and first-timers. Our goal is for everyone to leave feeling good in their bodies and breath. The benefits go so much further than the shapes we make. All the systems of the body and mind benefit from increasing your range of movement, whether or not you can touch your toes. You can see the glow on someone’s face when they finish class. Over time, the benefits really stack up to increase one’s ability to move and surf, love and live better.

The Space offers a mix of styles and classes for every stage of your journey. A yoga practice is for you. It’s entirely non-competitive, and instead focuses on self-inquiry and being in your own body and breath.

This summer our teachers include…

Patti has been teaching movement in Raglan for over 20 years, offering feel good classes to epic playlists.

Bexie founded the Space alongside Patti, and is our community-minded greenie who has a wealth of experience and curiosity to offer yoga to all.

Bethany is also a co-owner of the studio. Bethany’s inspiring classes are perfect to bring balance to someone with an active lifestyle.

Tessa teaches Mat Pilates. As the owner of Raglan Physiotherapy, she is passionate and knowledgeable about the body.

Kiri loves all things healing and expression – whether it be through art, movement, or music.

Elena brings the spice. She invites you out of your comfort zone in a playful way.

Diane offers a grounding practice. Though she has joined us recently, Diane has been practicing with us since before The Space.

Jordan has just jumped on our timetable to offer a fun, beat-based Friday Happy Hour class.

What we offer… Try Gentle for a feel good class and a place to start, well, gently! Mat Pilates is also a great starter class. From there, you can give Hatha, or even Vinyasa, a go. Power is a great way to challenge and boost strength after you’ve built your yoga foundations. Or you may slow down and go to a Restore class to reset.  Patti offers a Broga class for the guys.

Tips for your first class! Arrive early to settle in. Wear comfortable clothes to move in. If you want to try from home first, message us to learn about our online offerings.

We are offering a Beginners Series for those who want to build or revisit the yoga foundations on Mondays in November at 7:30pm. Book thespaceraglan@gmail.com or follow us on social media where we’ll be giving away a free spot @thespaceraglan
