Art + Garden with Sprout Gardener

October 7, 2024

Sprout Gardener blends gardening expertise with creative artistry. Offering bespoke garden designs and hand-embroidered vintage denim, this unique business brings beauty to both outdoor spaces and personal style.

Can you describe your business and its components?

As Sprout Gardener, I offer gardening and botanical design services, while as an artist, I create bespoke embroidered vintage denim pieces. I’m passionate about bringing beauty into the world through art and gardening.

What led you to combine these two strands in your business?

I’m a very hands-on, active person, so it felt natural to merge my interests in gardening, design, and art into a business that supports both people’s well-being and the environment.

Tell us more about your art practice and your gardening services.

As a multidisciplinary artist, my work spans embroidery, sculpture, illustration, and more. Currently, I’m creating a range of wearable denim featuring unique hand-stitched designs, available soon alongside custom orders. I use vintage denim for its quality, character, and eco-friendly benefits. I’m also working on an outdoor installation for the Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens.

My gardening services cover food growing, garden design, native plant regeneration, and general garden maintenance. With years of experience in various gardens, I’ve built up a versatile skill set that allows me to tackle any gardening challenge. I draw inspiration from biophilic design and the natural world, blending art and nature in my approach.

Why is Raglan the perfect location for your business?

The creative and diverse community in Raglan is truly inspiring, and it feels like the ideal place to contribute my gardening and art skills.

What challenges do you face in business, and what have you learned?

Gardening is physically demanding, so learning to look after my body has been a key challenge. I manage this by rotating tasks, practising yoga, staying hydrated, and nourishing myself with good kai.

What’s your business goal or vision for the future?

My vision is to create a business that adds beauty and creative value to people’s lives, whether through garden design, home art, or engaging workshops.
