Raglan Bowling Club plans for new artifical surface

December 21, 2023

Another positive and busy year at Raglan’s Bowling Club – where experienced bowlers, newbies to the sport, visiting clubs, social bowlers and holiday makers have enjoyed fun time on the green – is culminating in an exciting development.

A team from the Raglan Bowling Club committee are working hard to create funds for a carpet surface to be spread over the existing astro green,  a surface which needs replacing having served the bowling community faithfully for 20+ years.

“We’re incredibly excited about the opportunity to place a new technology carpet surface down over the green.  It will future-proof us for many more years to come and means we can continue to offer bowls all year round,” says club President Alan Price.

The target to raise $100,000 and secure an already promised carpet has got off to a great start with over $33,000 raised; a combination of savings, grants and recent donation pledges.

The club is now seeking funding from the wider Raglan community, both individuals and businesses, by offering everyone the opportunity to purchase, per square metre of carpet, in a  ‘Fundraising Blitz’.  The club is hoping the idea of donating this way will appeal as a tangible way to see the fundraising goal reached.  Everyone who contributes will be recognised on a special permanent fundraising acknowledgement display.  Donations start from purchasing 1m of carpet as explained in the poster attached.

“We’ve been told so often just how important the bowling club is to the wider community and what it means.   Bowls is a sport that anyone can play and as we age is a vital way we can help our community remain active and engaged,” Alan says.

If you want to pledge an amount to make carpet green a reality, please contact Alan Price on 021 456 751 or Treasurer Kathryn Fitzgibbon on 021 179 9865.
