Two become one as Whāingaroa Environment Centre to merge with Xtreme Zero Waste

May 15, 2023

Whāingaroa Environment Centre Incorporated Society (WEC) is going to merge with Xtreme Zero Waste Limited (XZW). The time is right for change and the benefits are many for Whāingaroa. The boards of both organisations are excited to announce that WEC and XZW will combine their strengths.

WEC and XZW were both established in the early 2000’s, and both organisations share the purpose of advancing the protection, promotion, and preservation of the natural environment. In practice, WEC focuses on natural biodiversity and XZW focuses on waste recovery and resource use.

Discussions between WEC and XZW began in late 2022 and the integration will take effect officially from 1 July 2023. For the community, there will be no changes to the work that both organisations deliver. WEC and Xtreme will continue to operate from their current locations, with the same staff and resources as are currently employed.

All services and projects will continue as currently provided. This is a decision that will largely take effect behind the scenes, but we are excited about the future of being together under one organisation and the potential to collaborate more for the benefit of our environment.
