Q&A with Emma From The Hut Located at Rangitahi

May 5, 2023

The Local Rag caught up with Emma from The Hut at Rangitahi to hear about the coffee and food spot over on the peninsula.

What is new to report from The Hut at Rangitahi?

Last year our building moved across the road and is now on a new site where eventually a much larger cafe will be built. We didn’t move far but it has a nicer feel. Lots of sunshine, great views of the inner harbour, native bush and the majestic Karioi. We’ve also started sharing the site with food trucks in the evenings and weekends. We want to make this a regular thing and hopefully next summer we can get a market happening too.

What is appealing about taking the time to visit your location?

We have a beautiful outlook in our new spot. Plenty of parking and room for kids to run around that is safe and away from the roads. It’s so nice to escape over here when the town is feeling busy. The perfect peaceful spot for a coffee catch-up and lunch with friends. We are the ‘new’ part of Raglan but want the whole community to feel like they can come and hang out here. There are walking tracks that weave around the peninsula. Plus we have the best coffee roasted locally by Malcolm Hutt at Coaster Coffee, and bake lots of yummy food daily!

What kai do you have on offer?

We are becoming well known for our sausage rolls which we make in-house and our epic toasted sandwiches! If you like blue cheese, you have to try our Scotch Fillet Steak and Blue Cheese sandwich which is toasted on Turkish Pide – it’s a banger!

What do you like about running your business?

New Zealand hospitality is up there with some of the best and I love showcasing that through my business. I spent years travelling, working in hospitality and meeting people from all over the world. I love coming home and sharing my experiences with the community. I want people to feel like they can come to The Hut and know they will get an outstanding coffee, food and service and it will be the same every time.
