The Local Rag caught up with Raglan Board riders to get coverage of the special day
Why was it a good fit to dedicate the event to the memory of Kyle?
Kyle Leuthart was a long standing member of the Point Boardriders Raglan, as well as the key sponsor of the King of the Single Fin event for a few years, including our last King of the Single Fin back in 2020. More importantly, he was a friend and loved member of our surfing, and wider Raglan community, and the opportunity to celebrate and remember him was a fitting one.
It was an action packed event. How did it go? What was the highlight?
We were greeted at Manu Bay with pumping and consistent 4-foot waves with light winds – the conditions we had been waiting for. The excitement levels were high along with the morale, and the 72 competitors were more than ready to jump in the water. Although the waves were pumping and everyone could not wait to surf their next heat, or munch down a steak and cheese for the pie eating contest, the paddle out for Kyle was definitely the highlight of the day, with all the competitors and spectators joining in to remember and celebrate our friend.
Who would you like to give thanks to?
The event would not be able to run without the input and work of our committee members and entrants, who all helped make it run smoothly, in particular Marcus Hodgkinson, Michelle Tarrant and Luke Hughes for their efforts in organising and managing the day. To our businesses who supported the event; Raglan Surf Co as presenting sponsor donating spot prizes, the BBQ and drinks, Malcolm Hutt at Coaster Coffee for making free coffee all day, Raglan Bakery for sponsoring the pie eating competition, as well as the many other local business for their contributions; Coaster Coffee, Everyone’s Store, Volume1 Distribution, Workshop Brewery, Out of Ubud Bali Shop, B-Rex Photography, The Physio Room, Camenzind Surfboards and Hughes Surfboards, thank you all!
