It’s taken four years but the Raglan Golf Club Pennants team has finally made it to Division One, by winning the Waikato wide Pennants Division Two Competition, last Saturday at the picturesque Raglan Golf Course.
Having started at Division Four, four years ago, the team of Scott Claver, Aaron Brown, Ken Shea, Steve Hall, Luke Phillips and Jordan Holmes has made inroads into achieving Division One status for the 2024 Pennants Competition. To reach this status the team needed to play eight rounds plus a semi-final and a final.
“This is the first time in the history of the Raglan Club that we have a team playing Division One golf. It’s a huge privilege to represent the club at this level. Division One has been the domain of the bigger Waikato Clubs, so this achievement means we have really put Raglan Golf Club on the map”, enthused a very proud Steve Hall.
Team tactics played a big part in the team’s success with members playing for the team and not the individual. Playing orders were also changed to suit how well individuals were playing. Supporting each other also really paid dividends!
“Club support on Saturday was outstanding”, quipped Steve,” with over 70 family members, cheering and supporting us on to the finish line.”
Division One in 2024 will mean raising levels to a new height and playing against top ranked golfers, but that is what golf is all about- meeting these challenges.
Congratulations team and all the best for 2024.
