Buying Your First Home? Check out The Legal Squeeze podcast

April 11, 2023

Everyone knows that buying your first home can be an absolutely daunting and stressful process. For the uninitiated, there’s not only complex legal processes to overcome, there’s a whole new language that all the property professionals use.

What’s worse is that new buyers are reluctant to ask questions about the buying process and legal jargon for fear of looking stupid. While professionals in the property game (real estate agents, lawyers, mortgage brokers) do their utmost to help new buyers, it takes a bit of time to learn the ropes: the language used, the buying and selling process, and to feel confident enough to ask questions.

Many times, our first home buyer clients have told us that they love that we took the initiative and spent invaluable time with them to explain the buying process and the legal jargon used in the property game from the outset.

Typical questions are: who is the vendor and what are the chattels? What’s the difference between a mortgage and a loan? What do I need to do to go from conditional to unconditional stage? Should I have my lawyer review the purchase contract/offer before I sign it with the real estate agent? What is a pre-settlement inspection? What happens on settlement day?

At Gina Jansen Lawyers, we are all about supporting and educating our clients to help them get ahead in life and scale legal ladders. For first home buyers, that includes helping to “line up the ducks”: i.e., loans, obtaining specialist reports (LIM, building, geo tech), the auction process, making the best offer you can to the seller (vendor), and translating legal jargon into simple to understand terms to help new buyers get through what is a very stressful time. And yes, nobody wants to buy a lemon, right?

What’s supercool is that at Gina Jansen Lawyers, our highly experienced team of lawyers have developed up-to-the-minute educational tools, including eBooks and podcasts, to support our clients to scale any legal ladder.

We have created a “Series” of tech tools which provide expert commentary on various legal topics including: Inland Revenue and tax disputes, property, divorce & relationship property and estate administration.   Via our “Property Series”, first home buyers can subscribe to receive our free eBook, A Step-by-Step Guide for First Home Buyers.
