Spring Garden Inspiration

We’re so excited the weather is warming up, meaning it’s time to get out into your vegetable & herb gardens and get ready for spring planting! Our top tips for the coming month are below:

• Tidy up & prepare your gardens by digging in plenty of compost, vege mix, sheep pellets and/or fertiliser of your choice.

• Sow your favourite seeds like carrots, beetroot, silver beet & peas direct into your garden & lettuce, leeks, cabbage, tomatoes, capsicum, courgette, cucumber & eggplant in trays for transplanting later. 

• Refresh your herb garden. If space is an issue you can grow in pots!

• You could start planting out the hardier seedlings but remember to put some slug & snail bait around and cover with netting if there is frost predicted.

• Prune feijoas & passionfruit vines.

• Plant ‘Incredible Edible’ fruit trees & berries for a delicious crop come summer.

• Feed existing fruit trees & berries.

• Put seed potatoes on a tray in a sunny position for a few weeks before planting.

• Companion & edible flowers are fun too. Scatter some calendula, viola, marigold & nasturtium seeds around. Not only do they look pretty, they’re also great companion flowers for your vegetables and many are also edible.
