Raglan Community Board Update December 2019

December 5, 2019

The new Raglan Community Board was officially sworn in on Wednesday, 13 November. We are very lucky to have a mix of people, half of whom were members from the previous triennium and new faces, who all add to the depth of skills, passion and energy of the Board.  The RCB members are; Gabrielle Parson (Board Chair), Bob MacLeod (Deputy Chair), Dennis Amoore, Chris Rayner, Lisa Thomson, Tony Oosten and Satnam Bains.

The purpose of a community board is to:

represent and act as an advocate for the interests of the community;

consider and report on any matter referred to it by their council, and any issues of interest to the community board;

make an annual submission to their council on expenditure;

maintain an overview of services provided by their council within the community; and

communicate with community organisations and special interest groups in the community, and undertake any other responsibilities delegated by their council.

carry out functions and exercise those powers delegated to them by their council.
A first task for the new RCB is to do some internal team building and planning, this will be taking place in December.

This is an exciting opportunity for the Board to do strategic thinking and of course get to know each other better.

Some keys things we will be looking at are:

RCB Engagement Plan

RCB member roles/appointments/portfolios

Create an RCB Dashboard of what’s happening in our community

Raglan Naturally implementation

Raglan Wastewater discharge consent renewal

Raglan/Council Blueprinting

Long Term Plan

We will be reporting back to the community after our internal team building/planning workshop.

The RCB will be regularly updating the community via our Raglan Community Board Facebook page, The Raglan Chronicle, on Raglan Radio and at community events.

Out now for consultation ‘Draft Growth & Economic Development Strategy – Waikato 2020’ this is about Waikato District Council’s commitment to growth and economic prosperity in the District. Submissions are open until 17th January 2020.

The next RCB Discretionary Funding round opens on Friday 6th of December and closes on Friday 7th February 2020, for more information contact our local council office here in Raglan.

The Board will meet regularly throughout the year; officially there will be Community Board meetings every six weeks, on Wednesdays, 1:30pm. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, 19 February 2020, with the remainder of meetings in 2020 to be held on the following dates:

1 April 2020

13 May 2020

24 June 2020

5 August 2020

16 September 2020

28 October 2020

9 December 2020

The RCB will host community workshops and discussion opportunities in the months that meetings are not scheduled.

Everyone is welcome! See you at our next board meeting.
