Dear Editor – How not to advertise by phone

December 22, 2016

Living in modern society has many advantages in terms of comfort and enough money to live comfortably for most people. However as our society is a capitalist society we gradually lose sight of the human touch. One is advertising by phoning home numbers to sell services or products. This method has been around for years but there is a new approach that makes me furious. Instead of a polite “How are you today?” before launching into the sales pitch, after dashing to answer the phone in case it’s your nearest and dearest, you immediately hear this voice urging you in a forceful manner to buy this or join that. I expect that this method was thought up by some bright young man (women are more subtle pursuants) hoping to achieve rapid promotion. I slammed the phone down immediately. Bad idea for selling, young man, get advice from your sister!
