Can you please introduce Raglan Boat Charters to our readers?
We’re a tour boat company offering public cruises, private charters, and workboat activities, including commercial operations and ferry services for large groups. Our aim is to entertain customers while raising awareness of Maori heritage and environmental care of Whaingaroa (Raglan) harbour. We support local conservation efforts and keep harbour history alive through our crew’s knowledge and passion.
What boats do you have on the water?
We operate two vessels:
The Wahine Moe, our mother ship, can accommodate up to 70 passengers. It’s well known in the Raglan community, having been in the harbour for 16 years.
Our exciting new addition this year is the Waka Huia, so named because she resembles a traditional Maori carved treasure box. She’s a 9m amphibious RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) from the New Zealand boat maker Sealegs. Powered by a 300hp outboard engine, she can carry 11 passengers and 1 skipper on land and water. We believe we need a second boat when the Wahine Moe is booked privately or fully booked; we also need better customer options for windy days and smaller groups, and finally, there is commercial workboat demand in the region.
What options do you offer for harbour cruises and functions?
We provide:
90-minute public cruises on the Wahine Moe with optional fish & chips and a licensed bar.
The Wahine Moe as a venue with transport and catering options.
Private cruises on the Waka Huia for smaller groups, supporting various activities from picnics to water sports.
What is appealing and unique about what you offer?
Our public cruises cater to everyone. The Wahine Moe is extremely stable and manoeuvrable in shallow waters, accessing many hidden bays. The Waka Huia offers more adventure, exploring areas inaccessible to the mother ship due to its speed and amphibious capabilities.
