Hoult Construction is your local residential and commercial building company, proudly serving the Raglan community since 2018.
After spending 12 years working in both the residential and commercial sectors in Auckland, we gained a solid understanding of the dos and don’ts of running a successful construction business. This experience taught us the importance of care and attention to detail on every project.
Our team thrives on a strong work ethic and believes that success stems from great, honest and clear communication. Keeping everyone in the loop ensures expectations are met and results in a finished product that exceeds standards.
Our journey so far has been steady and deliberate. Patience and precision have been key to our growth, and while we’re not aiming to become a massive company overnight, we trust that the quality of our work will guide us to where we need to be.
What kinds of projects have you been working on and what results have you achieved?
We’ve worked on a wide range of areas in construction, from residential new builds to commercial development. Since starting in Raglan we have worked closely with Elevate Homes, handling everything from site prep, to making their transportable homes look like they were built right on-site, which has been a great experience.
We’re also working on a challenging but exciting home designed by Auckland architect Oli Booth, set for completion in early 2025. This project features some incredible design elements like curved walls and lots of timber, really pushing our craftsmanship.
In addition, we recently teamed up with Coolhouse low energy homes by Jessop Architects for a new build in Rangitahi, working with some awesome clients whose vision aligned perfectly with ours. It was a small space, but it was designed incredibly well, creating a beautifully liveable home. It’s been a pleasure seeing these unique projects come to life!
We also completed our show home in Rangitahi in 2023, which is currently on the market. It’s a stunning showcase of our capabilities and design style, reflecting the quality and creativity we bring to every project!
Based on client feedback – what do you feel are the strengths of your building company?
Based on client feedback, the strengths of our building company include excellent communication, with clients appreciating regular updates and clear breakdowns of progress, even when they aren’t on site. Our problem-solving skills and ability to offer helpful suggestions stand out, especially on complex builds. Clients also highlight our high-quality craftsmanship, noting that we never take shortcuts, and take care with every detail in our architectural projects. Lastly, being available and approachable throughout the build process has been key in maintaining strong client relationships.
What kinds of builds are you interested in taking on?
We are open to any building project but love the challenge and quirks an architectural build brings. We love the challenge of taking on architectural builds that push creativity and craftsmanship to new levels. But we also really enjoy working closely with our clients to create unique spaces that reflect their vision. We’re all about doing things a little differently, whether it’s using reclaimed materials or adding special touches that give a home character and personality. For us, it’s not just about building something beautiful — it’s about making sure it feels truly one-of-a-kind.
Tell us about your team –
Our team consists of 6 qualified builders, 2 apprentices, and me. We all share a mutual love for surfing and golf, and you’ll often find us spending our afternoons together either in the water or on the golf course, having a few laughs. Team morale is super important to us — we believe that making time for the fun stuff is what keeps us motivated and energized.
When it comes to work, we push each other to be the best builders we can be, always striving for top-quality results. It’s a balance of hard work and good times that keeps our team ticking!
What do you think is the best way to reduce stress for those embarking on a house build?
The best way to reduce stress during a house build is to keep things simple and stay in close communication. Building a home can feel overwhelming, but having a builder who listens, keeps you in the loop, and is proactive about problem-solving makes all the difference. We find that being upfront, clear, and flexible really helps take the pressure off. Plus, it’s important to enjoy the process — we like to remind clients that building a home should be exciting, and we’re here to handle the tricky bits so they can focus on the fun stuff!
What advice would you give those starting out on the journey of building their home?
My advice for anyone starting their home-building journey is to take your time planning and really think about what you want in your space. Be clear about your priorities and be open to flexibility, as things can change during the process. It’s also important to find a builder you trust and feel comfortable communicating with — a good relationship with your builder makes everything smoother. And lastly, enjoy the journey! It’s an exciting process, and while there may be a few bumps along the way, the end result will be worth it.
