Christmas at Wi Neera

December 14, 2023

In the final edition of Coastal Commerce for the year, we chat to Norris Peart from Surfside Church about their upcoming Christmas event.

When was Surfside Church formed and what was the vision?

Surfside Church began in the mid 1980’s. Our vision has always been to make a positive difference in our community and giving people a purpose and hope.

Tell us about the aspects of the community that Surfside is involved with and what they offer to a range of people in the community.

We provide services and programmes for a range of ages, ethnicities and needs. Mainly Music for preschoolers, children and youth programmes, Sunday Church services, marriage and parenting courses, counselling, as well as running the Raglan Foodbank.

What works so well about all these services within Surfside? You must have a great team?

Our team of dedicated volunteers are passionate to help people reach their God-given potential, which is out worked through the various programmes Surfside provides.

What is the event happening next week?

On Sunday 10th Dec. we are bringing a family friendly, community Christmas event, ‘Christmas @ Wi Neera’. The leaseholders of the parking area between the Council Office and the Backpackers on Wi Neera Street have allowed us to use that space. Throughout the evening we will have various groups on stage including the Raglan Area School Kapa Haka group. The Surfside band will lead a couple of sets of carols for both the kids and adults. Santa will also make an appearance.

There will be some kai provided by Surfside as well as local food vendors onsite selling their wares. Bring your picnic blanket or chair. There will be extra parking available at Papahua that you can walk across the footbridge from. Gates open at 5.00pm with a 5:30pm start and finishing around 8:30pm.
