Every 3 years our councils set their spending and rating plans. This year the plans include raising rates by over 6% and spending $15.6m for upgrading the sewage works and $7.6m to replace Wainui single-lane bridge in 2023.
Other issues are a regional fuel tax and Auckland’s Watercare taking over water, sewage and stormwater. Although most charges are going up, the daily charge for aircraft landing will stay at $10, well below the $15 or more per landing at other airfields.
A couple of days before Waikato District Council has its Long Term Plan public information session, Whaingaroa Environmental Defence will discuss the plans.
Join in the discussion to get ideas on what to ask council. In 2014 over 300 responses to the Community Board put Raglan’s top priorities as footpaths, a swimming pool and buses. Paths and pool aren’t mentioned in the plans, yet there’s $161,000 to restore the WW2 pillboxes, and Pokeno’s bus will get more than double the subsidy of Raglan’s and even more than the Huntly/Ngāruawāhia bus.
